GMB Scotland backs Joe Fagan to lead Scottish Labour
GMB Scotland has endorsed Joe Fagan MSP in the Scottish Labour leadership contest.
A meeting of the union’s political committee, representing members, chose Fagan, who was elected to Holyrood in May, as its preferred candidate after meeting yesterday. [THURSDAY]
Louise Gilmour, GMB Scotland secretary, said the policy platforms of all the candidates had been discussed before the committee endorsed Fagan. The union will now formally nominate him in the leadership contest.
She said: “Only full and serious discussion will allow Scottish Labour to find the best way forward because there are significant decisions to be taken.
“All the candidates in the contest have strong Labour values and are clearly ambitious for the party but our political committee representing members believes Joe Fagan best represents their priorities.
“Scottish Labour is at a crossroads and this leadership contest must set the party’s future path with new ideas and fresh thinking.”
