GMB Slams Scottish Greens “Self-Indulgence” Over Cuts Budget Deal

Ahead of the budget debate in the Scottish Parliament this afternoon (Thursday 27 February), and following reports confirming a deal to pass the budget between the SNP and the Scottish Greens, GMB Scotland Senior Organiser Drew Duffy said:

“Long suffering council workers will be sickened by the self-indulgence of the Scottish Greens.

“Patrick Harvie hailed the deal as “a transformational step towards tackling the climate emergency” but is he even aware of what’s going on in his own back yard?

“Glasgow has a waste crisis, home carers have to walk the streets alone at night to look after our most vulnerable, roads are full of potholes and historic buildings like the Mitchell Library are crumbling. That’s what over £300 million worth of budget cuts in the last ten years will do.

“This budget will kick-start a second decade of cuts across Scottish local authorities. How can the Scottish Greens claim to be saving the planet when they can even stand-up for their own communities?

“They are Scotland’s very own little helpers of austerity.”
