Rep Candidate Personal Statement

Dear SGN members in Paisley Depot,

I am writing to you to put my name forward for the position of the new union representative in Paisley Depot.

As an employee of SGN for over 15 years which has involved covering various roles I have a vast knowledge and understanding of the company rules and procedures and feel that this would help me serve fellow GMB members in a number of circumstances going forward.

I believe I am the perfect candidate to represent my peers because I am a proactive and efficient individual who will inform members about any arising issues in a confident and happy fashion. At present, I have a positive and hardworking relationship with all fellow members which would have a positive effect on my role as a union representative because members will approach me, trust me and rely on me in confidence.

I think it is the right time for a change of leadership within the union because I feel it is important for myself and the other members of SGNC to have a leader who will represent us and voice any problems that we may encounter in a work environment which is constantly changing. This is something I am convinced I would flourish in because it is something that I feel passionate about and would like to see an improvement in.

Furthermore, I have a strong relationship with current GMB Direct representatives whom I understand very well and if I get the opportunity to work alongside them I am certain that it would be a great success.

With the challenges ahead, it is inevitable that we will have to work very hard but with my help, I believe that the union will become stronger moving forward and in doing so help improve current pay and conditions.

Yours,

David Otto
