The proposed closure of the Rokbak artic hauler line at Volvo’s Motherwell site and the potential movement of a Volvo rigid line to China represents far more than the loss of over 100 jobs. It strikes at the heart of a community built around this factory for over 75 years. Since opening in 1950, the site has been a cornerstone of skilled employment, pride, and identity in Motherwell and stands as one of the last large manufacturing sites in the area.

Generations of families have passed through its gates, building not only world-class machinery but stable livelihoods and a sense of purpose that has sustained the local communities for decades. 

The site has developed young talent, offering countless apprenticeships to local school leavers and providing a pathway into skilled, secure employment for generations of young people.

These redundancies will have devastating consequences for workers, their families, and the wider community. Local businesses will lose out and the long-standing social fabric tied to the factory will be weakened. At a time when secure, skilled employment is more important than ever, this decision is needless.
