Ready for Renewal - Campaign Office Launch and Public Meeting

Dear GMB Member,

Ready for Renewal - Campaign Office Launch and Public Meeting

GMB Scotland is campaigning, alongside the Scottish Trade Union Congress and Unite Scotland, to bring the work manufacturing the jackets for EDF’s £2 billion Neart na Gaoithe offshore wind project to Fife.

The joint campaign, called Ready for Renewal, seeks to bring together workers, the local Fife community, trade unions and politicians to demand that the renewables industry does the right thing and gives Scotland its share of the economic benefit of building Scotland’s offshore wind sector.

We understand that EDF currently intend to construct the jackets in Indonesia before shipping them halfway around the world to be situated off the coast of Crail, just 20 miles from the BiFab yards that currently lie empty.

We believe that building the jackets here is better for Fife, better for Scotland, and better for the environment.

Our campaign has already secured the support of politicians from every party in the Scottish Parliament, and we’re now working to get the community campaign up and running to show EDF that our better plan has local support from the people of Fife.

A campaign office has been set up at 44 High Street, Leven, KY8 4NA, with the official opening and launch event scheduled for 9am this Saturday 8th June. Please come along, get involved and support the campaign.

Neart na Gaoithe means “strength of the wind”, we’re looking for a big turnout on Saturday to show EDF the strength of the people.

The campaign is building towards a public meeting at Buckhaven Community Centre from 6pm on the 20thof June, where EDF have been invited to address the local community and set out their intentions for the construction of the jackets.

We would urge you to come along to this public meeting, bring your friends and family, and make sure the voice of the workforce is heard.

In the meantime, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me on 07752 595581 or email gmbscotcampaigns@gmb.org.uk
